Double Win in VDI-Competition "Bathing 4.0"

Translated extract from the VDI press release:

"Second and third place in the VDI competition 2019/2020 "Baden 4.0 - Wellness- und Freizeittherme Düsseldorf" once again goes to students of the Institute for Design and Construction at the University of Stuttgart.

This year's competition task included the planning of a wellness and leisure pool, which is to be built on an open space next to the existing all-weather pool at Flinger Broich in Düsseldorf. In a second construction phase, the design task was to create a wide range of offers for leisure guests and families. The special challenge was to represent the different forms of use and functional requirements of a spacious thermal area with spa zone, a sauna landscape and an attractive fun pool in a harmonious design composition. In addition to fulfilling design and construction criteria, a coherent energy concept and a sustainable construction method had to be found.

The 2nd prize, endowed with 3,000 €, went to Rosa Sophia Hanig (Master student of Architecture) and Maximilian Carlos Schmid (Master student of Civil Engineering). Their project mainly scored with its refined architectural spatial design and innovative energy concept. Their design consists of a skillful interplay of geometric volumes that reflect the functions of the bathroom. The different dimensions of the bodies create different spatial impressions, so that the guest can experience a change of atmosphere from room to room.

The team, consisting of Denise Maier (Master student of Architecture), Lydia Rebbereh (Master student of Architecture), Isabell Röhm (Master student of Architecture) and Marcel Twardon (Master student of Civil Engineering) was awarded with the 3rd prize and 2,000 €. Their concept of a particularly friendly and bright bathroom convinced the jury.

The design of their spa is impressive due to the clear organisation of their floor plan, the flowing transition between the interior and exterior space and the creation of a varied water landscape in which every visitor can find a favourite spot. The highlight of their project is the representative pavilion, which, with its memorable folding structure in timber construction, acts as an identity-creating figurehead."
