From gas boiler to hydrogen center - interdisciplinary design

       

       

"There's a boiler in Gaisburg that's slowly rusting away, I'll sit in the nettle because I'm in favor of demolition." This quote from former Lord Mayor Rommel is also at the beginning of the design task this semester.

As a famous engineering structure, the Stuttgart stratified gas boiler has been a listed building since 2021. Therefore, it is not to be demolished, but converted into the center of a future hydrogen center. A center for hydrogen vehicles with a roller dynamometer for heavy-duty vehicles is to be built within the shell of the listed gas boiler.

The surrounding area of the gas boiler is to be designed as part of the design, incorporating the banks of the Neckar River, as a mobility park with exhibition rooms and the opportunity for test drives. Autonomous "U-Shift" vehicles developed at DLR will take off from the gas boiler. These will provide feeder services to the Neckar Stadium, the Schleyer Hall, the Daimler Museum and the Cannstatter Wasen. A launch pad for air cabs may also be part of the mobility park.

For the processing of the design, the DLR - Institute for Vehicle Concepts will provide the data of the "U-Shift". Site plan data and plans for the gas boiler will also be provided.                                                                                                    

Interdisciplinary cooperation in teams with students from Faculty 2 (Civil and Environmental Engineering) is expressly encouraged.

Submission presentations are expected to take place at the end of July.

Group work is planned for the processing of the design.
