Construction and Form – „ProForma“
The main focus of the module Construction and Form, which is taught in the masters programme in a cross-faculty form for students of architecture, civil engineering and technical pedagogy, is the complex interrelation between construction form and constructional and material-related factors. Form is the most powerful vehicle for the sensory perception of architecture. Along with other factors such as colour and texture, it has a lasting effect on our visual perception of buildings. Form occupies the interest of designers and recipients alike, intensively and continuously.
In addition to the visual appearance of a building, its form, or rather its geometry, also determines other, non-visual factors, such as the load-bearing behaviour or the thermal behaviour, but also the internal functional organisation as well as other functional factors such as lighting and ventilation. For this reason, the design of a building is an extremely powerful tool that sets the course for further planning in the early stages of the design process. In this field of tension between the aesthetic will to form and hard-quantifiable structural functions, the seminar will critically examine the question of how certain realized building forms can be explained and how the complex interaction of form relevant design factors can be influenced and controlled confidently for the benefit of the overall design.
About the online teaching:
The weekly seminar meetings and all related presentations will be held online via Web-Ex conference. Using the "share screen" function, the lecturer can show his presentation to all other seminar participants and then discuss it openly in the round. The students will receive an invitation to the Web-Ex conference by email.
It is advisable to download the app from this link beforehand, but participation via internet browser only is also possible with a few small restrictions. Files will be exchanged via Ilias. Additionally there will be a "Podcast" with videos from Mr. Moro. As soon as the participants have been determined, an info mail will be sent to all participants with technical and scheduling details about the organization and the course of the semester.
