Excursion to The Hague, Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Delft in November 2019

From the 2nd to the 7th of November 2019, the IEK was on an excursion in the Netherlands.

As part of the international design course "Oranjeschool", the main goal was to study the construction site in The Hague, but also to gain a deeper understanding of the architecture, urban planning and the educational system in the Netherlands. For this purpose, also the neighboring cities of Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Delft were visited on day trips.

In addition to the most famous architectural projects of the respective cities, the students got a detailed insight into various school buildings such as the famous Open-Air School in Amsterdam by Johannes Duiker or the Montessori-School in Delft by Herman Hertzberger. Office-visits and lectures by Dutch architecture firms such as MVRDV, Mecanoo and Moke Architecten, as well as a guided tour through the Architecture Faculty of TU Delft were also on the program.

The excursion for the international design course is an integral part of the teaching program at the IEK and takes place every semester. More details about upcoming design courses, as well as destination and date of the accompanying excursion will be announced with the course offer for summer semester 2020.

Here are some impressions of this year's excursion:
