Gas boiler Stuttgart Gaisburg – A new E-parking Garage for Stuttgart

“There's a boiler in Gaisburg that's slowly rusting away, I'm sitting in the nettle because I'm in favor of demolition." This quote from the former mayor of Stuttgart Manfred Rommel is at the foundation of this semesters project assignment. As a famous engineering structure, the gas boiler in Gaisburg is a listed building and under monumental protection. Therefore, it is not to be demolished, but converted a center for electric transportation. An automatically operated research parking garage for electric vehicles is to be built within the shell of the listed gas boiler, where the vehicles will not only be charged, but will also be able to supply energy to a central buffer storage facility in the sense of sector coupling, in order to be able to bridge any energy lows. The surrounding area of the gas boiler is to be designed as an e-mobility park with showrooms for electric vehicles and the opportunity for test drives as part of the design, incorporating the banks of the Neckar River which is in immediate proximitiy to the boiler. Autonomous "U-Shift" vehicles which are developed at DLR will also take off from the “Gaskessel” and provide a transportation service  to the Neckar Stadium, Schleyerhalle, Daimler Museum and “Cannstatter Wasen”. A launch base for air cabs may also be part of the e-mobility park. For the processing of the design, the DLR - Institute for Vehicle Concepts will provide the data of the "U-Shift". Site plan data and plans to the gas boiler will also be provided.

About online teaching:

The weekly supervision meetings and hand-in presentations are organized as video conferences via Web-Ex. The students will receive an invitation to the Web-Ex conference via email. It is advisable to download the app beforehand, but participation only via the internet browser is just as possible with a few minor restrictions. The exchange of technical and organizational information takes place via the platform ILIAS. Files are also exchanged via Ilias. Teamwork in groups of 2 is possible by arrangement.

The design places are allocated via the central allocation procedure of the faculty.
